Gujarat police have taken an unconventional approach by naming an «unknown black-and-white bovine» as the primary suspect in an accident case. This unexpected decision has left many perplexed, especially in light of the Gujarat High Court's recent scrutiny of the police force for perceived inefficiencies in addressing the issue of stray cattle.
This perplexing incident transpired in Kheda district, specifically in the town of Nadiad (West).
Rather than identifying the owner of the bovine as the responsible party, the local police have chosen to hold the animal itself accountable for an accident that occurred on a Saturday evening.
Typically, in such cases, the police would name the cattle owner as an accused party. However, it has been a common occurrence for those involved in accidents with bovines to find themselves caught in a complicated legal web.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed with the Nadiad (West) police, the accident unfolded on Zalak Canal Road.
Bharat Shah, a 50-year-old private-sector employee, was riding his electric scooter when a stray bovine ran in front of him.
The collision between the scooter and the animal caused Bharat to lose control and tumble against the rough road surface, injuring his nose and head severely. In the FIR, Bharat's nephew, Dhrumil Shah, a resident of Petlad, stated that he received a distressing call from his aunt alerting him of the mishap.
Bharat's injuries were so severe that he couldn't communicate. He was initially transported to a private hospital in Nadiad before being transferred to a different private hospital in Ahmedabad for further treatment.
This is where the story takes an unexpected turn.
