JDS delegation, led by its state president HD Kumaraswamy, on Thursday met Governor Thawer Chand Gehlot and sought a CBI probe into the widespread circulation of explicit videos of victims of alleged sexual assault, while doubting the credibility of the investigation by Karnataka’s special investigation team (SIT) into the alleged abuse of women by Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna.
A delegation of JDS leaders that included core committee chairman GT Deve Gowda and other legislators told the Governor that Deputy CM DK Shivakumar was the mastermind of distribution of videos. They accused the Dy CM of organising distribution of more than 25,000 pen drives in bus stands, parks and other public places in Hassan Lok Sabha constituency and requested the Governor to advise Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to drop Shivakumar from the Cabinet.
They said the videos were circulated not only in Hassan but also in other constituencies through social media and pen drives, days ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, to malign the NDA candidates.
The JDS, the memorandum said, welcomed the government setting up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the alleged sexual abuse of women by Revanna Jr, but the SIT's probe had been biased and opaque. The SIT was being guided on a day to day basis by the government and working at the behest of the CM and Deputy CM. The JDS leaders alleged that the videos were circulated in Hassan and in Bengaluru Rural constituencies at the behest of Shivakumar.
