cyber fraud has surfaced from Hyderabad in which a doctor claimed to have lost a staggering amount of 19.7 lakh rupees while trying to earn money through a part-time job.
The 29-year-old doctor, employed at a hospital in Kukatpally, lodged a complaint with the Cyberabad police on Monday. According to the victim, he came across the fraudsters on the Telegram app on October 4.
They offered him a job to review various products by rating them on a webpage link provided by them.
The fraudsters lured him saying that he could earn about Rs 3,000- Rs 5000 daily through the part-time job.
The doctor stated in his complaint, «I was informed that upon successfully completing 25 tasks, I would need to share screenshots of the completed tasks to receive payment.»
Upon agreeing to the terms, the fraudsters granted him access to the website www.w****d*****al.com and asked him to deposit an initial payment of 10,900 rupees to receive the tasks. After completing the first task, the victim received 15,000 rupees on October 5.
The following day, he was instructed to deposit 20,000 rupees, and after completing three more tasks, he received 52,427 rupees.
Believing it to be legitimate work, the doctor transferred a total of 19.4 lakh rupees in 11 transactions from October 6 to November 7.
The fraudsters had shown a virtual account balance of 27.85 lakh rupees on the webpage, luring the victim into their trap. «When the victim attempted to withdraw the amount, they continuously demanded more money, citing reasons such as security deposits for high withdrawals, penalty charges for mistakes, and additional task deposits,» revealed a cybercrime officer.
