Live Aid, the iconic charity concert that raised a staggering £127 million nearly four decades ago, is set to be transformed into a musical. This legendary fundraiser, masterminded by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, took place on July 13, 1985, captivating a crowd of 72,000 at Wembley Stadium, all in an effort to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia.
The event garnered a global audience of tens of billions through live television broadcasts.
Featuring electrifying performances by music legends like David Bowie, Queen, U2, and The Who, Live Aid has earned its place as the most unforgettable concert in history.
Now, under the title «Just For One Day,» paying homage to David Bowie's 1977 hit «Heroes,» which he performed during the event, this monumental moment in music history is being brought to life on the theater stage. The production is scheduled to debut at the Old Vic early next year.
«Just For One Day» will showcase an array of hit songs from iconic artists such as Bowie, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Paul McCartney, The Pretenders, Status Quo, Paul Weller, Sade, The Boomtown Rats, Bryan Adams, and Diana Ross.
The musical is written by John O'Farrell, the talent behind «Mrs. Doubtfire: The Musical,» and directed by Luke Sheppard, renowned for his work on «Romeo & Juliet.»
In a noble gesture, ten percent of the proceeds from each ticket sold will be directed towards The Band Aid Charitable Trust, actively fighting poverty and famine across Africa.
