BPSC) recently invited applications for over 1.70 lakh primary, secondary, and higher secondary schoolteacher posts. While there was a tremendous response for schoolteacher posts, there were not many applicants for the higher secondary teacher jobs, according to a report in the Times of India. As per the report, in total, 8.15 lakh aspiring educators have applied for the total of 1.7 lakh positions.
Notably, a substantial majority of applications—around 7.70 lakh—have been received for the 80,000 posts available for primary school teachers. Secondary teacher positions saw just 66,000 candidates apply for the 33,000 available posts. The scenario changed drastically for higher secondary (XI and XII) class teachers, as just 40,000 candidates have submitted their applications for 57,000 positions.
Earlier, in a notable alteration, BPSC eliminated the provision of negative marking for incorrect answers. The board has said that the decision is aimed at creating a more favourable assessment environment for candidates, where they won't be penalised for incorrect responses. Kumud Kumar, Deputy Secretary of the BPSC, shared that meticulous arrangements are in progress to ensure the seamless execution of tests at 870 examination centres across the state.
The testing process is divided into two shifts, with primary teacher recruitment and compulsory paper examinations scheduled for August 24 and 25. On August 26, the first shift will encompass secondary teachers' assessments (for classes IX and X), while the second shift will host evaluations for higher secondary teachers (classes XI and XII). The latter shift on August 26 exclusively caters to female candidates.
