India's preparations for their crucial World Cup match against New Zealand have been hit by injuries to two key players. Middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav suffered a blow to his right forearm during a net session on Saturday. The injury occurred when he was hit by a full toss from the team's throwdown specialist, Raghu.
Suryakumar was visibly in pain and had to apply an ice pack to his hand. As a result of the injury, he did not participate in further batting practice. Team sources have indicated that the injury is not serious and an X-ray examination has not been deemed necessary.
However, his availability for the match on Sunday remains uncertain.
This injury comes as another setback for the Indian team, as they are already dealing with the absence of all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Pandya was ruled out of the match due to a left ankle injury sustained in the previous game against Bangladesh.
The absence of both Suryakumar and Pandya has disrupted the balance of the team, raising concerns about their chances against New Zealand.
In addition, left-handed wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan also faced an unfortunate incident during the net session. While batting, Kishan was stung by a honeybee on the back of his neck. The incident caused him considerable pain, and he was unable to continue batting.
