While the ministry of electronics and IT has suggested an extension, officials said a final call is yet to be taken as talks are still on with the commerce and industry ministry.
The regime came into effect October 2023 to monitor imports, post which import of the seven IT hardware items, including personal computers, laptops and tablets has declined to $8.4 billion in 2023-24 from $8.7 billion in the previous fiscal with share of China around 58-60%.
"Meity was thinking of extending the deadline and continue with the system but talks are still going on," said an official.
