AR Rahman’s Chennai concert has been making news and grabbing eyeballs for all the wrong reasons.
After several fans complained about being kept out of the venue (despite paying an exorbitant amount for the tickets), due to lack of adequate seats. Many also accused the organisers of poor crowd management, as a stampede occurred, the fiasco took a more sinister turn when several women came out with horror stories of being molested in the stampede.
Recently, Tamil playback singer Chinmayi Sripada came out in support of the victims.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the ‘Tere Bina’ singer penned an emotional post.
Addressing the victims, she wrote, “It is not your shame. It is not your fault.” She went on to say how these unfortunate women were faced with a harrowing ordeal, instead of the good musical experience they were promised.
“You deserved music, you deserved fun, you deserved joy, you deserved a concert experience that made you cry; cry from the joy you felt from the music, from feelings that evoked nostalgia….I wish you didn’t have to go through sexual harassment but you did and wish as I might that such experiences never happen to anyone, this wish doesn’t come to pass,” she wrote.
She then went on to call out detractors and gaslighters who dismissed the victims and accused them of being attention-seeking.
“You darned dingbats who are gaslighting those who recounted their sexual harassment; You darned dingbats who said avoid crowds if you do not want to be molested; You darned dingbats who asked if the girls were tweeting for engagement, views, attention what have you….
