Omar Abdullah has said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were unhappy with the decision to bifurcate the state into Union territories and remove its special status. The August 5, 2019, order of the Centre has hurt J&K's relationship with the rest of the country, he said. The ex-CM's comments came in the backdrop of the passage of the J&K Reservation (Amendment) Bill and the J&K Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill by the Lok Sabha.
On her part, Mehbooba Mufti, another ex-CM, said the reservation bill was illegal as the 'issue was sub-judice'.
«The truth is that people in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh are not happy with the decisions of August 5, 2019. The recent council elections in Kargil proved it, so did the DDC elections in J&K earlier. If they conduct assembly elections here, we will prove again that people are not happy with these decisions,» Abdullah told journalists in Pulwama on Wednesday.
«Not conducting elections here is leading J&K to a disaster.
People have the right to elect their representatives. The government and ECI put the ball in each other's court. They are hiding behind each other, and people of J&K are suffering because of that,» Abdulah claimed.
