JEE (Main) exam has started on a slow note. The country's largest engineering entrance exam saw only 5.1 lakh students register with less than a week left for the deadline.
During the same time period last year, 12.2 lakh applications were submitted. As the deadline approaches on November 22, experts are expressing concern over the sluggish pace of registrations.
One of the reasons for the decrease in number application is due to challenges faced by students from the OBC (Other Backward Classes) and EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) categories. An additional document is now required as part of their application.
Applicants from these groups must now provide not only their category certificate but also the certificate’s ID, the date it was issued, and the name of the issuing officer. This has created complexities and confusion among students as many are not able to obtain the necessary documents.
Another issue students filling JEE Main application form are facing is Aadhar verification. This is because of a mismatch in details. Applicants have raised their grievances with National Testing Agency (NTA) for mismatching details.
