Barbora Krejcikova won comfortably against Latvian tennis player Jelena Ostapenko in the Wimbledon 2024 quarterfinal game of the women's singles, even after trailing in the initial part of the set. Ostapenko, apparently lost her calm and focus at the same time while leading the second set, when she suddenly asked one of her coaches to leave the box, and a small argument ensued following which the play resumed. However, in the end, Ostapenko lost in straight sets.
Jelena Ostapenko was comfortably ahead in the second set and was looking forward to winning it and proceed to the next set and give Krejcikova a tough fight. However, while leading 4-3, Ostapenko lost her cool and was venting her frustration on Stas Khmarsky, and asked him to leave, to which Khmarsky argued with her in disbelief. the viewers watching on received a treat of entertainment on the courts as it was very unclear as to why this happened in the first place, that too during such a do-or-die set.
Right after the argument with her coach Stas Khmarsky, Ostapenko gave up her lead in the second set and appeared dazed, ultimately losing in straight sets to Krejcikova, as her fans stared in utter disbelief. The entire fiasco saw Krejcikova easily cruise to the semifinals, where she will now face Elena Rybakina, who is also one of the top seeded players in this championship. Rybakina will be eyeing herself at the finals of the women's singles, having fought her way through the previous rounds rigidly.
