Johnson’s decision to veto the trade was reportedly influenced by his sons’ opinions, especially after he started involving them in team discussions after returning from his role as the U.K. ambassador. One Jets executive said that during meetings, Woody Johnson would sometimes cite opinions his sons read online, giving them equal weight to professional executives’ advice. The incident involving Jeudy, who had an 83 overall rating in Madden NFL 24, highlights the bizarre nature of these influences.

The Jets had proposed trading wide receiver Allen Lazard and a 2024 draft selection with the Broncos for Jeudy, however, Johnson's veto put a stop to the deal. Jeudy which has since accumulated more than 1,000 yards receiving this season, was then traded to the Cleveland Browns. With an 83 rating Jeudy would have been the Jets' second-rated receiver (after Garrett Wilson, who had 84). The vetoed trade for Jeudy comes amid a challenging season for the Jets, who are sitting at a 4-10 record going into Week 16.
