manufacturing facility being set up in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, a top official of the Belgium-headquartered engineering company said.
It aims to be the lowest cost manufacturer of electrolysers and plans to use the India plant an export hub, Francois Michel, chief executive of John Cockerill Group, said.
The company also plans to expand its operations into steel, energy and defence, and triple its workforce in two years, he said.
«We would be able to assemble and then produce fully about 2 gigawatts of electrolysers a year,» Michel said, adding that it is the largest investment in the world to produce green ammonia and will be also the cheapest base in the world by far. «We are confident in our technology to bring it to the lowest cost as fast as possible.»
In March 2022, Greenko and John Cockerill signed an agreement to exclusively partner in market development initiatives for green hydrogen and electrolysers in India. This January the joint venture John Cockerill Greenko Hydrogen won the electrolyser production-linked incentive for 300 MW per annum and an incentive of ₹444 crore.
Electrolysers split water into oxygen and hydrogen using electricity-a process known as electrolysis. Green hydrogen is a gas made by electrolysers using power from renewable energy sources and is essential for decarbonising industries.
India relies on the global market to source electrolysers for its green hydrogen projects. To counter this and reduce the cost of green hydrogen production, the Solar Energy Corporation of India
