Johnny Depp recently visited the birthplace of poet and writer Dylan Thomas in Swansea, Wales. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor could make the visit to the Swansea place because around the same time, he had a gig in Swansea Arena. Depp was set to perform with his band Hollywood Vampires with American rock singer Alice Cooper.
The BBC reports that Johnny Depp said he was «dumbfounded» after the visit to the poet’s place. He told Nation Cymru that during such a visit, “you get to see where all of his thoughts came from, it's a lot to take in". «I'm still floating a little, having been in the room where Under Milk Wood began,» Depp revealed.
Johnny Depp is 60 years old and has an established Hollywood career, with blockbusters like the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Edward Scissorhands, among other films. The actor’s career had a bit of a setback during his legal battle with ex-partner Amber Heard. But Deep is back in action, after the trial ended in his favor.
Dylan Thomas’ house is located in Uplands, Swansea, Wales. It was restored in 2005, after being utilized as a student bedsit for some time. An interesting fact is that Dylan Thomas was born in the front room of the same house in 1914.
The custodians of the property posted on Facebook that Johnny Depp was rather «amazed” that “so much important Welsh writing» was done in a small bedroom at Dylan Thomas' house. The actor was guided on the tour by the current owner, Geoff Haden. He also took a look at a restored window that overlooked Swansea Bay.
This window is said to be Dylan Thomas' inspiration for the phrase «ships sailing across rooftops». Like a true fan of the writer, Johnny Depp even wrote in the visitors' book. He
