UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson allegedly left a cryptic message engraved on the bullet used to murder him, according to a report by the New York Post.
The masked gunman, who fatally ambushed Thompson on a Manhattan sidewalk, disappeared into Central Park and remains at large. The 50-year-old executive was killed early Wednesday morning while walking to the company’s annual investor conference at a Midtown Hilton hotel, located near prominent landmarks like Radio City Music Hall and the Museum of Modern Art.
Sources cited by the New York Post claimed that the words “deny,” “depose,” and “defend” were engraved on live rounds and shell casings left behind. Police recovered three live 9-millimeter rounds and three discharged casings from the crime scene.
Footage from nearby surveillance cameras suggests the shooter used a silencer and demonstrated advanced firearm skills. The gun reportedly jammed during the attack, but the shooter cleared it quickly and continued firing at the helpless Thompson as he attempted to crawl away.
«The calculated and methodical manner of the attack points to a skilled gunman,» the report stated.
