
Kunal Kamra calls out T-Series ‘mafia tactics’ as ‘Naya Bharat’ video faces YouTube axe amid copyright clash
Kunal Kamra has lashed out at T-Series after the music label reportedly blocked visibility and monetisation of his stand-up special, Naya Bharat: A Comedy Special, on YouTube. Kamra took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticise the company, accusing it of misusing copyright laws.
«Hello @TSeries, stop being a stooge. Parody and satire come under fair use legally. I haven’t used the lyrics or the original instrumental of the song. If you take this video down, every cover song and dance video can be taken down. Creators, please take a note of it,» he wrote.
He further added, «Having said that, every monopoly in India is nothing short of the Mafia, so please watch/download this special before it’s taken down.»
Political Satire or Defamation?
The controversy started after Kamra performed a parody song targeting Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a stand-up show in Mumbai. In his act, he modified the lyrics of popular Bollywood songs to poke fun at Shinde’s political career and his 2022 rebellion against the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government. One of the parodies included the line, «Meri nazar se tum dekho to gaddar nazar wo aaye. Haaye!» (From my perspective, he looks like a traitor).

Shiv Sena leaders were quick to react, labelling Kamra’s remarks as offensive. BJP legislator Pravin Darekar took the matter further, filing a breach of privilege notice in the state legislative council, accusing Kamra of making «personal and insulting» comments about Shinde.
