Lakers selected LeBron James' oldest son Bronny James last week in the second round of the draft after one season at the University of Southern California (USC). This will be the first time in NBA history that a father-son duo will be playing at the same time let alone for a same side. James has long spoken of his desire to play in the NBA alongside his son.

It will be James' 22nd season in the NBA, tying Vince Carter for the league record. The move represents only a slight salary increase over his scheduled 2024-25 season salary of $51.4 million in the form of a player option.
The deal, culminated on the fourth day of free agency, includes a no-trade clause and a player option for next season.
James will turn 40 in December and averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists last season — as the oldest active player in the league. This past season, he became the first player to be age 39 or older in what became an All-NBA campaign.
The four-time NBA champion, the league's all-time leading points scorer, will be playing his 22nd season in 2024-2025, seventh with Los Angeles. Not only is James the all-time leader in points (40,474), but he’s fourth in assists (11,009), sixth in games played (1,492), and eighth in both 3-pointers made (2,410) and steals (2,275).
