militant associated with Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of southern Kashmir on Thursday, said Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The encounter took place in Frassipora village of Pulwama, where a joint cordon and search operation was launched by police, 53 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army and 183 battalion of CRPF, police said.
The slain militant, identified as Danish Sheikh, was a resident of Ellahi Bagh area in Srinagar and had joined the militant ranks just two weeks ago, according to the police.
«During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, a terrorist was neutralised and his body retrieved from the site of encounter,» police said.
Sheikh was associated with LeT and its offshoot, The Resistance Front, according to the police.
