Lizzo's legal team has filed a motion to dismiss the harassment and discrimination lawsuit brought by a former employee, Asha Daniels, who worked as a clothing designer for the singer's tour.
The attorneys argue that the lawsuit, filed in a Los Angeles court in September, is «meritless and salacious,» asserting that Daniels failed to fulfill her assigned duties and eventually neglected her work. Lizzo's legal representatives claim that Daniels was terminated for «abandoning her post» on the day of a concert in Paris, France.
The motion to dismiss is based on the grounds that the case was filed in the wrong location and that Daniels, a New York resident, lacked a connection to California while working for a Delaware corporation in Europe.
Los Angeles attorney Ron Zambrano, representing Daniels, responded to Lizzo's legal team's motion to dismiss, characterizing it as «another Hail Mary» to shift blame and rationalize the singer's alleged misconduct.
"«Lizzo and her lawyers can continue trying to rationalize her illegal and wretched conduct but we remain committed to seeking justice for our clients, and look forward to our day in court where Lizzo can explain her behavior in a public forum,» he said.
Daniels filed the lawsuit against Lizzo and her team, accusing them of fostering a «racist and sexualized» work environment, contrary to the body-positive and inclusive image Lizzo promotes.
