Lyle Foster has been sidelined indefinitely due to renewed mental health challenges, the club has revealed.
Foster's absence comes as a significant blow to Burnley, especially as they grapple with the threat of relegation. Notably, Foster was their leading scorer, having netted three goals and provided two assists in seven Premier League appearances.
In a summer interview, Foster candidly discussed the struggles he encountered during his time at his former club Westerlo in Belgium, acknowledging that some days, he found it difficult to get out of bed.
Since his move to Turf Moor in January for a fee of £11 million, Burnley has made concerted efforts to ensure Foster feels at home.
The striker expressed gratitude to assistant coach Craig Bellamy, who has also confronted his own mental health challenges, for his support.
Foster has been absent from the team since withdrawing from the match against Bournemouth, despite having traveled with the squad. Burnley has now officially confirmed that he is once again contending with mental health issues.
“Foster has been having issues with his mental well being and as his club, we’ve naturally made a decision to fully support him.
He’ll get all the expertise and clinical support that he needs. We’re wishing him a speedy recovery and to be in a better place by the time he’s ready to come back.
We were very fortunate with Foster, he’s been very open and from that moment we were able to act," Manager Vincent Kompany said.
