Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole on Sunday suspended 16 rebel candidates of the party for six years.
The suspended leaders include Anandrao Gedam, Sonal Kove, Abhilasha Gavature, Premsagar Ganvir, Ajay Lanjewar, Vilas Patil, Hanskumar Pandey, Kamal Vyavhare, Mohanrao Dandekar, Mangal Bhujbal, Manoj Sinde, Vijay Khadse, Shabir Khan, Avinash Lad, yajnavalkya jichkar, and Rajendra Mulak.
This comes days after Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala had said all the party rebels contesting against the official candidates of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) had been suspended for the same time period.
Addressing a press conference, Chennithala had said the district units have been asked to prepare a list of rebels still in the fray for the November 20 Maharashtra assembly polls and serve notices to them.
«There will be no friendly fights. All the rebels contesting against the MVA's official candidates have been suspended,» the All India Congress Committee in-charge of Maharashtra said.
