Mahayuti Face Internal Churn on CM Post
The Mahayuti coalition, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena faction, and Ajit Pawar's NCP, is predicted by most exit polls to retain power. However, disagreements over the Chief Ministerial candidate have already emerged. Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Shirsat reiterated that Eknath Shinde should continue in the role, stating, “Voters have shown their preference for Shinde through voting. I think it is Shinde’s right.”
Conversely, BJP leader Pravin Darekar backed Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for the position, saying, “If anyone from the BJP is becoming the CM, then it will be Devendra Fadnavis.”
Adding to the complexity, banners in Pune promoting Ajit Pawar as the next Chief Minister reflect another dimension to the Mahayuti's internal competition. NCP leader Amol Mitkari declared that sidelining Pawar could have significant consequences, asserting that the party will be the “kingmaker.”
MVA Struggles
On the opposition front, MVA partners are similarly divided. Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole declared that his party would lead the government if the MVA secures a majority. “Voting trends suggest the Congress will get the highest number of seats,” he claimed.
