Mamata Banerjee slammed Border Security Force (BSF) and held them responsible for the death of four children who died in Uttar Dinajpur district’s Chopra on Thursday. She demanded stringent action by the Centre on the issue.
“BSF's responsibility is to guard the borders. When four innocent children died in Chopra, did their lives have any value? Our delegation met the Governor today. I want punishment of those BSF officers, who are responsible for the death of these innocent children,” Banerjee demanded at the floor of the assembly on Thursday.
“The Central government must take stringent action,” she said adding, “I know what the BSF is doing. One of the MLAs in Murshidabad complained to me that BSF dragged an Imam out of a mosque in his constituency and assaulted him.”
Banerjee also alleged that BSF is distributing items to the villagers in saffron bags on behalf of BJP. “They (BSF) are distributing things in saffron bags in different areas. Their job is to secure the borders and not campaign for BJP,” she said. Banerjee showed pictures of BSF officers distributing things in saffron bags and submitted the picture to the Speaker.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Trinamool Congress visited Raj Bhawan and met Governor CV Ananda Bose demanding his visit to Chopra and intervene into the issue.
Following the meeting with the Governor, Trinamool leadership said, “We visited the Governor to submit a deputation today. Tragic death of four innocent children happened in the Daspara gram panchayat of Chopra in Uttar Dinajpur
