Jaya, a female street dog from Varanasi, is about to embark on a journey to a new country with her new owner from the Netherlands.
Meral Bontenbel, a native of Amsterdam, fell in love with Jaya during a visit to Varanasi and decided to bring her home as a pet. Bontenbel shared her experience, saying, «I traveled to Varanasi to explore the city.
While walking around one day, Jaya approached us. She was very sweet, and I instantly felt a connection with her. She started following us around, and one day, she was attacked by another dog on the street.»
Fortunately, a security guard came to Jaya's rescue.
Bontenbel initially didn't plan to adopt her but wanted to ensure she was safe and off the streets.
She had to extend her stay in India for six months to arrange a passport and visa for Jaya. «I'm thrilled to finally be able to take her with me.
It was a lengthy process, but worth it. I have always wanted to have a dog, and I fell in love with Jaya the first time she approached me,» Bontenbel added.
Jaya's journey from the streets of Varanasi to a new life in the Netherlands showcases the bond between humans and animals, transcending borders and cultural differences.
