Indian American comedian has taken the world of comedy by storm, bringing in humor and comedic relief to the seemingly mundane lives of Indian-American housewives and the daily issues in Indian households. From winning the best comedy screenplay at the 2019 Austin Film festival for ‘Rearranged’, her career as a stand up comedian has reached new heights, having performed on ‘The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon’, being named Variety Magazine’s 10 comics to watch in 2023 and being celebrated by eminent figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Oprah, Karan Johar, Kevin Hart and Bill Clinton.
When reminiscing about her first time on stage after being inspired by her children to take a stab at stand up, in an interview for ET Panache she said, “ White do people do this? Because it had never occurred to me that stand-up comedy is a job. I remember getting off stage and thinking, if this is a paid job, I have let millions of dollars of laughs just go by in my life.” Staying true to her essence as a comedian she claims that, “ The best part of my job is that I have to stay away from my family. And the worst part, I mean, there's no real downside.”
Now that she is touring, she has a simple pre-show ritual, involving eating just a banana because it settles her stomach. “It's the small things I worry about. I don't worry about my jokes. I don't worry about the comedy. But I don't want to burp or fart or do something like that on stage because you don't want to have an embarrassing moment like that.”
