Mizoram polls is a test for BJP floated non-Congress platform Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) as both BJP and ruling MNF are fighting against each other in the assembly polls.
MNF and BJP have had a very troubled relationship in the last five years. BJP in its manifesto has promised it will establish a special investigation team to probe the «irregularities and corruption» in the implementation of the Socio-Economic Development Programme, the flagship scheme of the Zoramthanga-led Mizo National Front (MNF) government.
Congress’s New Land Use Policy’ (NLUP) was attacked in 2018.The scheme according to Congress aimed at arresting the jhum or shifting cultivation in the state has brought vast change in the state.
BJP and MNF alleged that the scheme has benefited congressmen only. These parties denounced the scheme stating that against the target of 1.20 lakh families, the scheme has covered 1.68 lakh families.
MNF had proposed a Socio-Economic Development Programme.
This scheme is attacked by Congress, BJP and ZPM. State Congress president Lalsawta said that the MNF had promised Rs 3 lakh to each beneficiary of SEDP, a flagship programme, but ended up giving only Rs 25,000.
He said that Mizos are Christians and averse to BJP’s agenda.
BJP is trying to enter the government through the local party ZPM.
BJP president J P Nadda while releasing BJP’s manifesto had said that BJP will establish a special investigation team to probe the «irregularities and corruption» in the implementation of the Socio-Economic Development Programme.
BJP is contesting 23 seats. It has one MLA in the current assembly.
