Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation on Monday with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin and decided to create a roadmap for future initiatives.
The two leaders reviewed progress on a number of issues of bilateral cooperation in follow-up to recent high-level exchanges between the two countries, according to officials here.
This was Modi’s first phone call with a P5 leader in 2024. The phone call came days after External Affairs Minister visited Russia and met Putin.
They positively assessed the developments in bilateral relations and agreed to develop a roadmap for future initiatives to further strengthen the India-Russia Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership, according to officials.
They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, officials said, adding the PM conveyed his best wishes for Russia’s Presidency of BRICS in 2024 and assured of India’s full support. The two leaders agreed to remain in touch.
Current issues in the development of the Russian-Indian relations of the special and privileged strategic partnership were discussed.
The achievements in practical interaction in such areas as trade and economy, science and technology, energy, transport and logistics as well as cooperation in the Russian Far East were noted with satisfaction, according to a Russian government readout.
“Vladimir Putin and Narendra Modi expressed commitment to further intensifying mutually beneficial bilateral ties and wished each other success in the upcoming elections — presidential in Russia and parliamentary in India,” according to the readout.
