Monsoon update: Schools in Noida to remain closed on 10 July, says DIO
Arvind Kejriwal informed the Delhi schools to remain closed on Monday 10, citing heavy rains, Gautam Buddha Nagar's District Information Officer announced that schools in Noida will remain closed too. Informing about the latest update, Gautam Buddha Nagar's DIO Rakesh Chauhan said, as quoted by news agency ANI, “In view of the heavy rains, schools in Noida will remain closed." The northern region of India is witnessing heavy to very heavy rainfall since Saturday and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the regions, saying more rains would continue on Monday.
Citing the reason for the heavy rains, IMD said that an interaction between a Western Disturbance and monsoonal winds is leading to an intense rainfall spell over northwest India, including Delhi NCR. As per Safdarjung observatory, Delhi recorded 153 mm rain in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday, which is the highest since the 24-hour rainfall of 169.9 mm on July 25, 1982.
Meanwhile, the IMD on Saturday forecast high-intensity rain for 2-3 days in Delhi. The downpour wreaked havoc as arterial roads, parks, underpasses, markets, and even schools and hospitals were inundated.
