Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar has been called upon to appear before a magistrate court in Mumbai on August 5, as reported by India Today. This summons comes after actor Kangana Ranaut filed a complaint against him, accusing him of intimidation and insult. The legal saga between the two celebrities began when Akhtar retaliated with a defamation complaint following an interview with Ranaut in 2021.
During the contentious interview, the talented actor alleged that Javed Akhtar had exerted pressure on her in 2016 to apologize to fellow actor Hrithik Roshan amidst a very public dispute over an alleged relationship and exchanged emails. In response, Akhtar contended that Ranaut had mentioned him in connection to a purported «coterie» within the Bollywood industry while discussing the tragic suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020. Recently, the magistrate's court heard the case based on Javed Akhtar's complaint, and two witnesses were present during the proceedings.
However, their testimonies are scheduled for a later date. The legal entanglement between Ranaut and Akhtar began in September 2021 when the actor appeared before the court in connection to Akhtar's complaint against her. During that hearing, she expressed her dissatisfaction with the magistrate's court, claiming to have «lost faith» in it due to an implied threat of issuing a warrant if she failed to comply with a bailable offense.
