Tata-Airbus aircraft complex, that will produce the C295 military transport aircraft, can pave the way for developing and manufacturing civil aircraft to meet the needs of India and the world in the future, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.
Speaking after inaugurating the complex with his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister stressed that the facility reflects the work culture of a new India and is in line with the 'Make in India, Make for the World' slogan.
The complex in Vadodara will produce at least 52 of the military transport aircraft, with the first expected to be ready by 2026. Noting the growing demand of civil aircraft in India, the PM said that domestic airlines have ordered 1,200 planes in the recent past as air connectivity is being increased to hundreds of small cities as well.
The newly-inaugurated factory will play a major role in designing and manufacturing civil aircraft in the future, he said, adding that work is ongoing to make India a hub for aviation, including Maintenance Repair and Overhaul. Modi also expressed confidence that the Tata-Airbus complex will also export aircraft in the future.
Taking a shot at the Opposition, he said that a decade ago, the priority and identity of the Indian defence sector was about imports. «We expanded private sector participation in defence manufacturing, made public sector units more efficient, restructured ordnance factories into seven major companies, and empowered DRDO and HAL,» he said.
