Elon Musk, who President Trump has made a «special government employee», has been rapidly consolidating power over large swathes of the federal government with the president's blessing, throwing the government into chaos. In just a matter of weeks, the Tesla CEO has become the head of a controversial newly created advisory group and led efforts to seize access to sensitive government databases and the federal payment system. Basically, he has largely been behind an effort to persuade federal employees to take «deferred resignations», and pushed for the shutdown of an entire federal agency in a move that could impact the health of millions of people.

Moreover, Elon Musk said President Donald Trump agreed the US Agency for International Development needs to be “shut down,” following days of speculation over the future of the agency after its funding was frozen and dozens of its employees were put on leave. “With regards to the USAID stuff, I went over it with (the president) in detail and he agreed that we should shut it down,” Musk said in a X Spaces conversation.
