Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) have agreed not to set up semi-permanent relief camps in Ukhrul district of Manipur. State government is setting up prefabricated houses for the ethnic strife ravaged victims.
Organisations of both the communities had a meeting and resolved not to set up semi-permanent relief camps in Ukhrul. They resolved not to settle internally displaced persons from other districts in Ukhrul.
The TNL shall assist them in every possible way to people, if any, who have taken shelter in the relief camp in Ukhrul to reach their respective homes. TNL vice-president RS Jollyson, said that as directed by the United Naga Council (UNC), no permanent structure or semi-permanent relief camps would be allowed in Naga areas.
The Manipur Chief Minister earlier announced that 4,000 prefabricated temporary homes would be constructed in different districts for the people displaced in the ethnic violence, which broke out on May 3. Around 50,650 men, women and children of different communities were displaced in the violence and are now sheltered in 350 camps, set up in schools, government buildings and auditoriums.
