Gurugram residents can call a helpline number for collection and disposal of construction and disposal (C&D) waste. Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) has launched a new helpline number (9015339966) for residents to directly request the collection of their construction waste. As per a ToI report, The move aims to curb the activities of unauthorized vendors who often dispose of the waste irresponsibly on roads and vacant plots.
MCG officials told ToI that they have noticed that residents tend to approach unauthorised vendors for C&D waste collection, leading to improper disposal practices. To address this issue, authorized vehicles will now be dispatched to the residents' locations upon calling the helpline. This way, the waste can be collected efficiently and responsibly, without causing further harm to the environment.
The civic body is determined to take strict action against illegal dumping of C&D waste. The Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, and the Environment Protection Act provide provisions for imprisonment and heavy penalties for defaulters. Unauthorised vehicles involved in dumping construction debris will be confiscated, and residents associated with unauthorised vendors may also face consequences.
Earlier this year, MCG issued 110 challans amounting to Rs 22 lakh for illegal dumping of C&D waste from April to July. However, the problem persists in various parts of the city. To further address this issue, MCG's joint commissioner (Swachh Bharat Mission) visited the C&D waste processing unit at Basai, which has the capacity to process around 1,000 tonnes of waste daily.
