Dev Anand, the ‘evergreen star’ of Bollywood would have hit a century had he been alive today.
On his 100th birth anniversary, many yesteryear Bollywood stars paid a loving tribute to one of the most epochal stars who became synonymous with the Golden Age of Bollywood.
In an interview with the Times Of India, Waheeda Rehman, the leading lady of the 1965 blockbuster ‘Guide’, described the late star as one of the most charming individuals to ever exist.
“He was very charming. Jaise charming dikte thay, waise charming insaan thay. Bahut acche insaan thay,” (He was charming, both my appearance and manners. He was a very decent individual) she told the news portal.
She also went on to recount, how he was always very encouraging and never made her feel insignificant as a newcomer. Rehman who made her Bollywood debut with the 1956 crime thriller ‘C.I.D’ recalled how he made her feel at home.
Rehman and Anand made a successful silver screen pair. They appeared in seven films such as ‘Guide’, ‘Solva Saal’, ‘CID’, ‘Prem Pujari’, ‘Baat Ek Raat Ki’ etc.
In an interview with the Times Of India, Bollywood’s ‘Dream Girl’ heaped praises on the superstar for having an impeccable work ethic and described him as a “very lovely, and very respectful and dignified person.”
“He would only talk about work, and how we can be better. He would talk about it non-stop. His style of acting was different. He used to start work on time and end on time. If I was late, he would say, ‘koi baat nahi, scene khatam kar dene’, subtly telling me not to call off my day without completing my scenes,” she told the news portal.
