Coaching Centre New Rules: The Central government has issued new guidelines for coaching centres, aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of students. According to the guidelines, coaching centres can only enrol students who are at least 16 years old or have passed the Class X Board exams.
The centres are also prohibited from making false claims about ranks or marks in competitive exams.
The guidelines, which were issued by the Ministry of Education, also require coaching centres to register with the government. Existing centres must register again within three months of the implementation of the guidelines.
The centres are not allowed to hire tutors who have been convicted of any offence involving moral turpitude. Additionally, each branch of a coaching institute will be treated as a separate entity.
The new rules have been introduced in response to the increasing number of student suicides and concerns about the teaching methods used in coaching centres.
In order to enforce compliance with the guidelines, the government has proposed penalties of up to Rs 1 lakh or cancellation of registration for coaching centres that charge excessive fees or engage in other malpractices that contribute to student stress and suicides.
The implementation of the guidelines is the responsibility of the states and union territories, as education up to Class 12 is under their jurisdiction. The guidelines emphasize that enrolling junior students for coaching instead of attending school is not legal.
