Parliament forms standing committees: From BJP's Mahtab to Congress' Tharoor, who heads which department?
BJP's Bhartruhari Mahtab has been named chair of the Finance Committee, while Congress' Shashi Tharoor will lead the External Affairs Committee.
These department-related standing committees, which include representatives from various political parties, function as mini parliaments and oversee the operations of different ministries.
The Rajya Sabha Secretariat issued a communique announcing the formation of these committees.
In addition to the Finance and External Affairs panels, the Defence Committee will be chaired by former Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh, and the Home Affairs Committee will be led by BJP member Radha Mohan Das Agrawal.
