Kannada song from the 1974 Rajkumar starrer Eradu Kanasu was trending on social media platforms on Tuesday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a video of Chennai-based vocalist Sivasri Skandaprasad singing it.
“This rendition by Sivasri Skandaprasad in Kannada beautifully highlights the spirit of devotion to Prabhu Shri Ram. Such efforts go a long way in preserving our rich cultural heritage," the PM said in a post on social media platform X.
The song has come barely a week before the opening of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.
The classical vocalist, who is also a Bharatanatyam dancer and part-time model, became a celebrity after the PM's post and won new followers on social media.
Skandaprasad responded by saying the recognition was «really big for a humble artiste like me.
Thank you for encouraging us to constantly strive towards serving Bharat and continue our spiritual journey.» In her reaction to a news channel, she called the post, «a goosebump moment...like a blessing from Lord Ram himself.»
The Kannada song was originally sung by renowned playback singer S Janaki.
Skandaprasad is the founder of Ahuti, an organisation offering e-training and experience programmes. «From singing to dancing, recitation lessons to solving riddles, knitting to dressing up, painting to garland making, mastering a conversation to make-up techniques, Ahuti empowers you to touch the soul of nature with your art,» says her LinkedIn profile.
