Apple TV+ announced the renewal of «Presumed Innocent» for a second season on July 12, just two weeks before the first season concluded. The show, according to Apple, has become the most-watched drama on the platform.

As Season 1 ended with Rusty Sabich being found innocent, there are several possible directions for Season 2. Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays Rusty, could return, but the series could also continue without his character. The showrunner, David E. Kelly, has the option to create an entirely new story for the second season, possibly focusing on a different case.
Another possibility is that the show could draw inspiration from the works of author Scott Turow. In Turow’s novel «Presumed Innocent,» Rusty hires a defense lawyer named Alejandro ‘Sandy’ Stern, who also appeared in the 1990 movie adaptation. Stern was the central character in Turow’s 1990 novel "The Burden of Proof," which was later adapted into a miniseries in 1992. A sequel series could potentially follow this storyline. However, since Stern does not appear in the Apple TV+ series, he would need to be introduced in Season 2.
