wholesale markets, leading to a rise in prices. Supply had almost halved till Tuesday, said traders from Azadpur Mandi, the largest wholesale market for vegetables and fruits, and Ghazipur Mandi.
While the price of onions has increased by ₹3 per kg to ₹45 on average, the number of trucks bringing in potatoes has declined to 50 from 115, said Rajendra Sharma, a vegetable trader from Azadpur Mandi.
The supply of fruits such as bananas and apples has also dwindled, pushing up prices 5-10% in the wholesale market, said traders.
Prices of other vegetables such as okra, cauliflower and brinjal have also increased.
Amar Singh, a vegetable trader from Ghazipur Mandi, said: «Delhi gets its supply of fruits and vegetables from various states.
If trucks don't operate, there is no other way to get that supply. This will push prices of fresh fruits and vegetables up,» he said.
