States where mining activities take place will be divided into two-three categories considering their challenges, work done and interventions required, and a committee with officials from the Prime Minister's Office, cabinet secretary and mines ministry will then convene monthly meetings with states for each category to address their challenges, one of the officials told ET.
The mines ministry aims to bid out 115 mineral blocks in the current financial year, of which 88 have been auctioned till date. This is up from 95 mines auctioned in 2023-24.
Rajasthan leads the pack with 87 blocks auctioned from 2015 till date but has just three operationalised. Madhya Pradesh comes second with 82 mines auctioned but only three running. Auction to operationalising ratio is best in Odisha with 48 mines bid out and 26 running. Karnataka comes second with 45 auctioned and 13 operational mines.
