AAP’s Durgesh Pathak won the 2020 by-election with 40,319 votes, defeating BJP’s Rajesh Bhatia. In the 2020 Assembly elections, AAP’s Raghav Chadha secured victory with 59,135 votes, defeating BJP’s RP Singh. The BJP, seeking to reclaim the seat, has fielded Umang Bajaj, while Congress is attempting to make inroads with Vineet Yadav.
Rajinder Nagar falls under the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency and is located in the Central Delhi district. As of 2024, the constituency has 1,45,988 registered voters, including 80,686 male, 65,299 female, and three third-gender electors. The region primarily comprises urban, middle-class residents, including traders, professionals, and government employees. The voter base has traditionally seen a contest between BJP and AAP, with Congress attempting to regain lost ground.
