Gupta belongs to the same caste as Arvind Kejriwal and her selection will help BJP woo the Bania community more effectively. BJP has for long been known as the Brahmin-Bania party but had not given a chief minister from this community to the people of Delhi. Her predecessor CMs from the BJP were Madanlal Khurana (Khatri Punjabi), Sahib Singh Verma (Jat) and Sushma Swaraj (Brahmin).
