Rohit Bal is 'critical' following complications in a pre-existing cardiac condition. The 62-year-old has been placed on ventilator support at the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, the Times of India reported on Tuesday.
His health condition has declined due to a pre-existing cardiac condition.
In 2010, Bal had suffered a massive heart attack and had undergone an angioplasty.
ToI reported that doctors at the Medanta confirmed that Bal had been admitted on November 23 with complications like dilated cardiomyopathy, uncontrolled diabetes and acute kidney failure. A hospital source described his condition as 'critical'. He is under the care of Dr Praveen Chandra.
“Bal experienced acute chest pain, after which he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors carried out some tests and diagnosed that he is suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy," ToI reported, quoting a hospital source.
Bal was rushed to the hospital by model Suraj Dhalia.
A close associate of the iconic designer told HT City that he was in a state of unconsciousness and his heart health was rapidly deteriorating. «His heart was sinking and he was unconscious. His pacemaker gave seven shocks.
He was initially taken to Moolchand and when his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Medanta,» the source told HT CIty.
According to an India Today report, Bal had to be admitted to the hospital after a severe case of pancreatitis earlier this year.
Hailing from a Kashmiri Pandit family, with roots in Srinagar, Bal graduated with a degree in History from the prestigious St Stephen's College before studying fashion designing at the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Delhi.
