blood pressure measurement and ECG readings on its smartwatches, a move market trackers say will help the Korean major corner market-share in the premium wearables segment and help clear existing inventory.
Enabling the feature also brings Samsung smartwatches at par with the Apple Watch in terms of health monitoring.
The iPhone-maker had received regulatory approval for ECG and irregular heart rhythm notification in 2019, and has been available for Indian users ever since.
Market trackers said Samsung, now armed with the feature and an ongoing price correction, has a steadier standing in the smartwatch market.
Last week, Samsung announced it had received the necessary regulatory clearances and certifications from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation to enable features which has been pushed through an over-the-air update to its existing smartwatches.
Blood pressure monitoring is unique to Samsung smartwatches now, and is achieved using an optical sensor. The feature has been present in the past three generations of smartwatches from the brand, but was shut out for Indian users pending regulatory approval.
“Samsung Galaxy Watch6 users can download the Samsung Health Monitor App available on Galaxy Store and follow simple instructions to measure their BP and ECG. Both features will also be made available on Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 series,” the company said.
