Stock market update: Nifty Bank index advances 0.37%

Shares of ICICI Bank Ltd.(up 1.07 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd.(up 0.71 per cent), IDFC First Bank Ltd.(up 0.52 per cent), Federal Bank Ltd.(up 0.51 per cent) and HDFC Bank Ltd.(up 0.44 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Bandhan Bank Ltd.(down 2.8 per cent), Au Small Finance Bank Ltd.(down 1.5 per cent), IndusInd Bank Ltd.(down 0.93 per cent), Punjab National Bank(down 0.47 per cent) and Bank of Baroda(down 0.21 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Bank index closed 0.37 per cent up at 48682.35.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 216.05 points at 22488.65, while the BSE Sensex stood down 617.3 points at 73885.6.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 6 ended in the green, while 44 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, IRB Infra Dev., Motherson Sumi, Tata Steel and YES Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Exicom Tele-Systems, Emami, Sakuma Exports, Heritage Foods and Techno Electric hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Revathi Equipment, Borosil, SEL Manufacturing Co, Atul and Shreeoswal Seeds hit their fresh 52-week lows.
