Vice President-elect JD Vance has attracted online criticism after expressing support for Ohio State University’s senior football players, following their defeat to the Michigan Wolverines in the highly anticipated rivalry game known as "The Game." Vance, an Ohio State alumnus, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday to offer words of encouragement after the Ohio State Buckeyes’ fourth consecutive loss to their fierce rivals from Michigan.
In his post, Vance wrote, “I know it sucks to lose four to Michigan, but for your entire college career you guys have conducted yourselves like champions. I speak for nearly all of us fans when I say: we’re proud of you!” His message aimed to uplift the Ohio State seniors, acknowledging their sportsmanship and resilience throughout their college careers.
However, Vance's words quickly sparked a backlash, particularly from Michigan Wolverines supporters, who flooded the comments section with mocking and taunting remarks. One user commented, “Quite disappointed in the skirmish after the game. They could’ve connected a few more jabs.” Another user remarked, “Ohio State sucks and so do you!” Many comments focused on Vance's political background, with one critic pointing out, “A MAGA guy and J6 apologist is talking about losing gracefully? LMAO!”
