The Platform 2," directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, is set to premiere at the San Sebastián Film Festival this September. The film is a follow-up to the popular Netflix movie «The Platform.»
Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s film «The Platform 2» will have its world premiere this September. The premiere will take place at the San Sebastián Film Festival. This film will close the festival’s culinary section. «The Platform 2» is the sequel to the original Netflix hit, «The Platform.»
«The Platform» is set in a vertical prison with hundreds of floors. A stone dumbwaiter delivers food from the top to the bottom floors. Inmates on the higher levels consume the food, leaving little to nothing for those below. This structure creates a survival-of-the-fittest scenario where lower-level inmates face starvation, suicide or cannibalism. The film’s themes of social inequality and survival struck a chord with audiences worldwide.
«The Platform 2» retains the same prison structure but introduces new characters. Milena Smit, known for «The Snow Girl,» and Hovik Keuchkerian, known for «Money Heist,» are among the new cast members. They join Natalia Tena from «Game of Thrones» and Óscar Jaenada from «Luis Miguel: The Series.»
The sequel is set for release on Netflix on October 4. Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia returns as the director, and Basque Film producers Carlos Juarez and Raquel Perrea, who worked on the first film, are also involved in this project.
