Maha Kumbh's boost to economy
The Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, which lasted for about six weeks till February 26 and drew hundreds of millions of people, provided a «significant» boost to consumption expenditure in the March quarter, Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) V Anantha Nageswaran said last month. It's, however, difficult to «put a number» to such incremental spending at this stage, he added.

Maha Kumbh will help India achieve the target of 6.5 per cent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in financial year 2024-25, CEA said.
The Maha Kumbh, organised by the Uttar Pradesh government in the city of Prayagraj, had a budget of about Rs 12,670 crore, including both state and central spending. The mega pilgrimage event was expected to generate huge business.
The administration had estimated 40 crore people to originally visit the Maha kumbh. That was more than a fourth of India visiting a temporary district over just 45 days – or close to 90 lakh people on an average every day. The money they spent could total up to Rs 2 lakh crore.
