Manipur have been suspended following the cancellation of CBSE affiliation for 25 schools in the state. The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) has raised concerns, accusing the Meitei government of victimizing Kuki-Zo tribals by taking punitive action against officials from the minority community who were working to assist students affected by ethnic violence.
The ITLF highlights the challenging situation for tribal schools and students, as the state education board and technical institutes in Imphal, controlled by the majority Meitei community, leave them at their mercy.
The recent Manipur Board examination revealed a disturbing trend, with a majority of tribal Psychology students failing, and some even scoring zero marks. This raises questions about the actions of Meitei officials and the extent to which they are willing to go.
In response to the difficulties faced by tribal areas, Jangkhohao Haokip (ZEO, Churachandpur), Lhingtinneng (ZEO, Kangpokpi), and L.
Taithul (DI of Schools, Samulamlan) guided schools in seeking CBSE affiliation. The ITLF asserts that their actions were justified, given the subsequent approval by CBSE.
However, under pressure from the Meitei government, CBSE regrettably withdrew the affiliation.
The suspension of these officials is deemed punitive and morally wrong by the Kuki-Zo community. The directive for them to relocate to Imphal is criticized as insensitive, considering the potential risks they may face in Meitei-dominated areas.
The ITLF questions the motives of the Meitei community and government, asking why they prevent tribal schools from joining other boards if they do not wish to coexist. This situation is seen as an attempt to punish the minority community in various ways.
