Tokyo Vice, that saw Ansel Elgort, Ken Watanabe, Rachel Keller, Hideaki Itō, Shō Kasamatsu, Ella Rumpf, Rinko Kikuchi, in key roles, has in fact been based on a book by Jake Adelstein, known as, Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan. The story follows the crime journey of the Japanese police as well as the crime of that era.

However, it must be noted that the last episode of season two was named 'Endgame,' which already hinted at this being the last of the epic franchise' content. Also, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the central star, Ansel Elgort, was only roped in for two seasons of Tokyo Vice.
